HOW TO REPROGRAM GARAGE DOOR OPENER REMOTE

STEP 1:

Check your garage door opener remote’s battery. Change the battery if needed. Make sure that the garage door opener is plugged in.

STEP 2:

Close your garage door, make sure it is closed all the way down.

STEP 3:

Carefully remove garage door opener’s cover that is over the circuit board. Once you reveal the components under the cover, find the ‘learn’ or ‘smart’ button.

STEP 4:

Press and release the ‘learn’ button. You will see a led lights illuminates. Now you have 30 seconds to program your remote.

STEP 5:

Find the button on your remote that you wish to program. There are usually 2 or 3 buttons on a remote. You can program each button with different garage doors, gates to properties, or even gated entrances to communities.

STEP 6:

Push the button you wish to program and let go. You will see the light on the garage door opener flash on and off, meaning that the remote is now programmed. It will not change the programming of the other remotes that are already working, the garage door opener simply learns a new code for the specific remote.

STEP 7:

Test your remote to make sure it opens and closes the garage door by pushing the button you programmed.

HOW TO DIAGNOSE AND FIX GARAGE DOOR PROBLEMS

STEP 1:

Check if your opener is plugged in to the power. Simply follow the cord of the garage door opener and make sure it is plugged. Sometimes it gets unplugged by mistake, and since today most of the garage doors are powered by electrical openers, this could be the problem.

STEP 2:

Check if the sensor is obstructed or misaligned. To do that, look at both sides to make sure nothing is in between them that can block the path, and there is a light on both sides. If one of them doesn’t light up, try to move it around and clean it until you see the light comes on. If that doesn’t work, you probably need to call a professional. For a temporary fix, you can press and hold the button on the wall until the door is fully closed, that way you bypass the sensors.

STEP 3:

Check if the door is off tacks. If you see that your door is a little bit on the angle, it means that you probably have a broken or snapped cable. In that case the door will not go up, nor down. Unfortunately, this is a very dangerous procedure for a non-professional, please do not attempt to fix it yourself.

STEP 4:

Check if the springs are not broken. The way to do that is to look on the top of the door, and check if the springs are still wound. If one of them is broken, you will see a separation in the middle of it, and that will indicate that the spring is broken. Please note – torsion springs are extremely dangerous, and do not attempt to replace them by yourself or try to open the door. Call professionals to have them replaced.

The last step is very easy, but causes a lot of problems and service calls the customers can avoid.

STEP 5:

Check if the garage door opener trolley is connected. A lot of times the trolley gets disconnected purposely or accidentally by pulling down the red rope. When that happens, the door becomes manual and does not connect to the motor. Simply pull the red rope down to the ‘lock’ position and then push the button and wait until it latches back. On some models you need to pull it down in a way towards the motor to bring it back to the ‘lock’ position.
